Sunday Potager (food garden) Ramblings #79

Well, hi there! Happy Sunday. Our April weather has been all over the place, from cold and snowy to double digit plus degrees. What a wild and wonky month. Hoping for April showers to bring May flowers… and green up our lawns, clean things up, make everything feel fresh again.

A green plant in brown lunch that is covered in ladybugs sunning themselves on a warm and sunny day.
Perennials are greening up, like this Sea Thrift (it gets the prettiest pink pompom flowers) and ladybugs are out sunning themselves during the day, sleeping in the mulch and plants at night.

That said… the snow is gone, bulbs are starting to pop their heads up, the rhubarb is pushing through the soil, perennials are starting to green up, and best of all? Ladybugs are coming out to sun themselves during the day. They are in the mulch, in the leaves, in the garden beds, and most especially all over the early perennials.

Please do not do garden clean up yet! Much too early, all of these ladybugs will be gone, plus their larvae and eggs. These are the good guys that are going to eat all those early aphids.

Planting Inspo

Check out the many lovely cold frame ideas in this post. Yes, it is AI enhanced. Sigh. So many pages and photos are nowadays, but the ideas in this read are good.

How To Grow

A charcuterie board with fruits, meats, crachers, and cheeses.

How to Make A Cheese Platter – these boards are one of my most favourite things. Great for a celebration with the girls, a small dinner gathering, nibbling and chatting with a glass of wine. Don’t want to make one? Check out Boujee Charcuterie – Charcuterie – Red Deer, Alberta. Highly recommend these guys. I give them 5 out of 5 stars.

Lemon Moscow Mule – I am all about anything citrusy. My brother is all about the mules. Therefore, this seems like a no-brainer for the next family dinner… assuming we actually get some spring like weather ; )

Use Salt to Clean Cast Iron and Lift Stubborn Buildup – Love my cast iron frying pan but keeping it up can be a thing!

Happy Sunday ~ Tanja
