Sunday Ramblings #76 (Spring & Easter)

Finally things are going to slow down a bit over here so that I can focus more on planting, growing, summertime prepping. It has been a crazy two weeks of appointments and running around. Whew, so glad that is over.

A backyard patio featuring a wooden deck, stone flooring, a dining table, and various potted plants, with a tall evergreen tree in the background.

We have started to haul out the summer things (pots, baskets, table and chairs) in readiness for the nice spring days and summertime. It’s a bit early yet. Everything will get snowed and rained on a bit, but they will also be nice to have out there when we have sunny 20°C degree days, like we had the other day.

Are you getting ready? Holding off for a few more weeks yet? Maybe after Easter?

This week I have great spring garden tips and inspiration for you, as well as Easter diy’s and recipes.

If you have followed me for any length of time, you will know that I am a huge proponent of companion planting for both organic pest control and to attract pollinators for larger harvests. Here are two articles with more information about planting flowers and herbs with your veggies.

Sourdough Discard Lemon Loaf

A smiling woman wearing a pink shirt and a straw hat stands in a greenhouse holding a large hanging basket filled with purple petunias and green plants, surrounded by various flowers and plants.
This photo is from Deb’s Greenhouse in Morinville. Fun fact, I lived in the Morinville area for several years while hubby was in the military.

This dark foliage with purples is calling my name this year. I was 99% sure that I was going to go all white this year, and suddenly, this purple ipomea caught my eye so I changed my whole colour scheme for summer 2026. I will add more white (or pink???) flowers to this basket, making it a purple and white/pink basket instead of using those dark solid purple petunias, but this is my inspo picture for this year. I think these colours will pop nicely against the house and gardens.

What colours are you using? Do you make a colour scheme or wing it when you see what is available at the garden centers?
