The leaves have all fallen, flowers have faded, and it’s just about time to start preparing for Christmas…
I have been working on the garland and wreath for outside. Gathering boughs and flowers from the yard. My wreath and the window box greens will be made from ‘real stuff’, while the garland around the front porch is a nice, long pre-lit faux one that will last us for many, many years.
Inside, it is not yet Christmassy. Like not at all. But I am in planning mode. New green velvet curtains (that are just like these blue ones) and a new rug for the den are in the works to make things feel cosy and warm for the holidays, and beyond.
These stars go up in early December but the rest of the decor waits till around the 20th of December, just before the out of town company arrives.

I absolutely love these stars. They make me feel like I am back at home, in Finland or Sweden, visiting with my aunties.

I found some lovely blue velvet ribbon to make into bows for the tree that happen to match the velvet drapes beautifully!

Flowers (I love roses and tulips at Christmas), or simple boughs of greenery from the yard, look great in vases, urns, crocks, bowls. A handmade wreath with clippings from the yard with a pretty bow.

Pop poinsettias into a pretty vase, pot, or basket, and pop them throughout the house.

You definitely need something to play your Christmas music on. We have most of ours on either tapes or cd’s (yes, really, we are that old), so this vintage player is perfect for us.
If you like the look but prefer a different colour, check out this one – very similar but more colours to choose from.

Use old crocks, urns, vases. Fill them with real greens gathered from the yard, or purchase a pack of mixed greens from the greenhouse, for that lovely scent of the holidays… especially if you have a faux tree, as we do.
The rug in this picture is a few years old, getting kind of faded, so I will be replacing it with something that has the same feeling, the same warmth for winter. Check out the rugs in my Amazon shop. There is one that I really have my eye on …
I have an assortment of old stools that I use both in the potting shed and inside the house as plant stands or to add height to a vignette. Here are some super cute ones that I really like. Much fancier than mine!
