Well, here we are at the tail end of the 2025 gardening season. Depending on where you are located, you may have fall, winter and spring crops planted (west coast), or you may have all your gardening finished and now be waiting for the leaves to fall (prairies).
If you are on the prairies, remember that you can sow some of the hardier veggies over the next week or two, for earlier crops next spring. Think lettuce/mesclun, spinach, carrots, and even beets. For those in warmer climates, you need to wait till closer to winter solstice or early in the new year to sow your seeds.
My Top Ten Canadian Vegetable Seed Companies – where I bought this year’s seeds from… and they were so amazing! So you can order your fall seeds!
I am now 4 weeks post hip surgery (as of tomorrow) and feeling pretty great. Am getting cabin fever like crazy, though, as I have only left the house a handful of times in the past month. Does anyone have ideas on what I can do, besides reading (I do tons of that already), to kill time? Free crochet patterns for doll clothes, maybe? And fingerless mittens (my favourites). I do not know how to knit, so not that : (

I sat outside, in my jammies and slippers, ‘helping’ hubby plant the spring flowering bulbs in the front yard. Cannot wait to see how ‘we’ made out, what it looks like in springtime. We planted low growing, deer and bunny resistant bulbs all around the pathway and in front of the sign.
Tomorrow is watering day. We will water the trees, shrubs and perennials for the final time before winter comes, and then drain and put away the hoses. I’m going to try to wash the windows by myself, at the same time… Love playing with water, but hate paying for said water ; )

In case you missed it, here is this week’s post 5 October Garden Tasks – The Marigold Potager – A Zone 3 Prairie Garden.
