Sunday Ramblings #53 – Creative Herb/Seed Storage Ideas

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! I hope you are all able to get together with family and friends, to give thanks and celebrate the season…

We are having the entire clan over for dinner and giving thanks. As hubby is a chef, he always does the family dinners. My job is usually to set the table, set the scene, do the cleaning, etc… I am doing none of that this year.

I am 13 days post (total hip replacement) surgery today. Doing really well, but not well enough to be of much help. So, we are pushing the easy button. Using paper plates, paper napkins, keeping it really simple. I kind of hate it. Truly. I love our big dinners, love pulling out the good serving ware and setting the scene. However, needs must (as they say in England). It will be a different kind of Thanksgiving this year ; )

The front yard this morning. Psst, check out the pretty blue larkspur!

This happened last night. Eek!

Luckily, though we often get snow in October, it very rarely sticks. Most years, it warms up again, we get nice fall weather, the leaves fall from the trees (that has not happened yet), we rake the leaves into our flower beds. Will see how things go this year. It’s Canada, eh?

Five glass jars filled with dried herbs labeled 'Oregano', 'Thyme', 'Dill Weed', and 'Rosemary', arranged on a textured surface with a colorful potted plant in the background.
I am in love with these jars. They match the grain and seed jars I have in the pantry.

Okay… I have to tell you about these jars. I absolutely love them. They match the seed/grain jars that I have in the pantry, are the perfect size, shape, look.

Weeks back, I washed up the herbs and laid them out to dry in the sunshine. When completely dry, I buzzed them up in my mini food processor and then put them in these amazing, cute, spice jars. You can leave the herbs on their stalks, standing up in the jars. That would look super pretty on a shelf.

Next year, I’ll be growing a whole lot more of these herbs to get a bit more in each. Am kind of shocked at how little we ended up with. The dill, especially. The lemon thyme smells amazing, so I will grow much more of that next year.

There are 12 jars in the set and a huge stack of labels. Labels for every herb or spice you can imagine, blank labels and a marker to write your own labels, plus a wooden spoon for the Himalayan pink salt.
