Sunday Potager Ramblings #41

You all… this is crazy weather. It is pouring down rain here again today. It is so good to get this rain, but I miss summer. I need some heat. Our heater has gone off every day this past week!

A charming garden setup featuring a green wooden railing adorned with potted flowers, a hanging flower basket with pink blooms, and gardening tools including a shovel and rake against a wooden wall.
Those are pansies in the rocks, for the most part, not weeds. So I have left them….

Gardens and flowers are doing just fine though. Everything is thriving… except the bland berries.

The raspberries do not have much flavour, are kind of bland and watery tasting. Not sweet like the usually are, or like they should be. Seems that they, just like me, are missing the heat. That said, the bushes are loaded this year! I’m looking at doing a few different things with these bland berries, I will fill you in another time.

Why Green Drenching is the trend of the summer. How to achieve it…. I kinda like it ; )

Designing a garden from scratch. This is a great article. Are you looking at a blank slate? Not sure where to start or what to do? This read is a great place to start.

Do you have half an hour to sit back and watch the most beautiful gardens and listen to Erin tell stories about her west coast flower gardens in the month of June? I just love these floret farm videos. So inspiring and educational. Love that she, like me, is trying to attract more songbirds, bees, and bugs : )

My bee bath is mostly frequented by the pups….

How to make a bee watering station.

Plants to propagate in July. Gonna admit that I do not do this until late summer, when I start bringing tender plants indoors for the winter.

How to grow and care for Penstemon. I love these perennial flowers. I bought one last year but sadly, it did not come back this year. I will be waiting on the late summer sales to buy another one and trying again!

8 reasons that you may be getting wonky looking tomatoes. This is not the actual title, lol, but this is what it is about.

Tips for growing better tomatoes. Regarding the feeding, this is a high potassium fertiliser. For vegetables in summer, a higher last number helps with fruiting and overall health.

Growing a pollinator garden. The bees favourite plants in my yard are the lavender and borage. I always see bees on both of them : ) Too bad that lavender is not perennial here. I am going to try taking cuttings this year….

It is raspberry season! Both the red raspberries and the Honey Gold are full of berries for daily picking. Here is my recipe for small batch raspberry jam (without pectin). Make a jar or two at a time, with your daily pickings… and use that jam to make these amazing sourdough raspberry crumble squares.

Pink Lemonade… it’s raspberry season!

Easy elote recipe. Funny, I just read a book where the main character made a wicked elote. I had never heard of it before.
