Sunday Potager Palaver #29

Well, here we are with another crazy weather weekend. Yesterday was 27 degrees and we were melting. Not used to that yet, hahaha. Today, on the other hand, is windy and only 11 degrees. Crazy. Hopefully not too many people jumped the gun and started planting their tender veggies, thinking that the weather was going to stick around. Is early days yet ; )

We are having a work out in the yard weekend though, regardless of the weather. May is super busy in the garden, plus I came up with another project for hubby (he is thrilled with me…not, hah) but it will look amazing. Making that pollinator strip! Finally figured out a place to put it.

A colorful flower garden with various blooming plants along a residential street, featuring yellow, white, and pink flowers, surrounded by greenery.
A pollinator strip garden.

I got the pollinator strip garden idea from my favourite Instagram gardener. Her garden is amazing. I have garden envy. I don’t understand a thing she is saying and translate only works on posts, not stories or talking, so I just enjoy the view, and the visual ideas.

Gardening Bits

Here are some great flower ideas for the bees, from spring till fall. Incorporate these to attract and feed the pollinators, maybe in your cutting garden? Or strip garden?

Thrillers, fillers, and spillers. The recipe to great success with your hanging baskets and summer pots.

If you are a local, I am holding two basket making workshops using this method of planting. Both are on the long weekend, one on the Friday evening, the other on Saturday morning. Here is the sign up and workshop info page. Check out all the how-to workshops, too. Share with friends, come on by.

3 before and after FRONT yards that invite socialization. Wow. Just wow!

Attracting beneficial insects to your yard with flowers. I do a workshop on this! This is something I have been practicing for nearly 30 years. If you are a local, come on over! See the workshop list here. I can move things around, too, if you want to attend but the times or dates do not work.

Also from Martha… how to grow carrots. Here is my post about how to grow nice, big, perfect carrots.

The ideal soil mix for raised beds.

How often to water your vegetable garden. I talk about this a lot. A whole lot at the workshops, and on my blog. It is not popular with home gardeners as we all really love to water our plants. That said, over watering is the main cause for home garden problems such as blossom end rot, bacterial diseases, powdery mildew, grainy tomatoes, bland tasting fruits… give it a go. Try watering less this summer and see how (well) your garden grows ; )

Homey Bits of Inspo

A cozy outdoor space featuring wicker chairs, a wooden table with a burlap cloth, and various potted plants. A heart-shaped decoration made of twigs and a sign that says 'HOME' adorn the wall.

Beautiful deck and patio ideas. I have been working on setting up our deck and patio for the summer season. The pots have all been hauled out of the shed but am holding off on the planting for a week or two, depending on the weather.

Cannot wait to stumble out of bed, grab a cup of coffee, and head straight for the deck to enjoy the morning sunshine (yes, in my pajamas – that is how I roll).

As an Amazon affiliate, if you buy any of the items through one of these links, I make a teeny tiny bit of money to support my blog. It does not cost you a penny more than it would if you went to the item without my link. Thankful for your support of this blog.

Cute tote bags for Mother’s Day. Can you believe that it is mom’s day next weekend? That sure came about fast, eh?

I love tote bags! I like the pretty ones that look good in the foyer when not in use : ) The links for the totes in this read are from the States, so here are the Canadian ones…

This hygge inspired home is so gorg! Love that master bedroom, eh? You must check out the dining and living rooms. I am kind of obsessed with those chairs in the living room.

Recipe Inspo

The Beast – mini blender that is strong and looks good on the counter. Comes in other colours, like Blue! I cannot decide between this one and the blue.
Nutri-Bullet. Affordable, reliable, has been around for a long time. Now comes in many new colours, so also looks good on your counter top!
Our Place – a mini blender that is mid-priced, looks great on the counter top, comes in several great colours. Other appliances to match.

Do you all make smoothies? My neighbour drinks some kind of green juice each morning, she calls it green slime, which does not make it sound the least bit enticing, hahaha. I have not yet verged out of my comfort zone to just add whatever to my smoothies. I make the same one over and over again. I like it, it makes me feel like I am doing the healthy thing ; ) Mine is a blend of….

  • Chia seeds
  • 1 pear
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • Cashew milk( or whatever milk you like)
  • Blueberries
  • Occasionally I will add cinnamon to it as it is supposed to be good for my heart. That is the only one I have ever made. You can switch out the berries as they ripen in your garden.
Two glasses of green juice, a cutting board with a knife and fruit on it.

From Martha…

Green juice.

Unleaded Margaritas. Perfect for Mother’s Day!

Unleaded Mint Julep. Another virgin bevie. Sounds delish. I wonder if using ginger beer would be too strong? Has anyone tried this?

I haven’t had a lot of time to do baking lately, and am not doing breads of any kind for the next 3 weeks (arthritis is off the wall at the moment), but I still need to feed the hubby… and hate to spend money on grocery store bread. So, this is what I am thinking of making today… One hour sourdough discard buns.
