Sunday Potager Palaver #24 (Revamping Your Garden)

To Palaver means to chat. Chatting about gardening and potagers is what I love best.

This has been a week, you all! As I was getting a bunch of posts ready to share, I thought I would change my Home page picture to something brighter, more spring-like. Well, I sure made a mess of it. I ended up with no picture, no homepage, no headers… I mean, when I say I messed it up, I really messed it up.

Thankfully, after many repeated asks for help from Word Press (they kept sending me links on how to do it myself, hahaha, not knowing how un-techie I am -which is how it got so messed up. Not one to give up, I kept on trying.) someone on that end finally did a reset back to the way it was. Whew. The picture with the marigolds and seeds is the one I was going to change out.

I am no afraid to make any changes at all, at least for quite some time. I still have to fix the search bar/search button (a necessity on any blog, eh?), but other than that… sorry, no spring changes, lol.

That is why there was nothing new posted last week. I was over here having a major meltdown. So, I have a lot of catching up to do….

A vegetable garden in late summer, planted up with alyssum for organic pest control.

I did, however, get the workshop roster up, so if you are fairly local, check it out. Also, if there is something else you would like to see on the list, a date change or addition, just sent me a message and we’ll see what can be done. I am super flexible…. and super excited to meet you all, make new garden friends : )

A new window box being built out of tongue and groove.
The new window boxes are quite large at (31x10x9) and will be painted dark green, just like the trim colour out back.

Spring Window Boxes. Hubby is in the process of building me two wooden window boxes for the front porch, so this is timely. Here are some more window box ideas for beyond springtime.

I hope to show you my finished window boxes planted up with spring flowers in a few weeks time… first, to find the forced bulbs!

To have bulbs blooming in your boxes, you will need to buy forced bulbs from a greenhouse/box store. Bulbs that were planted into pots in the fall, and sold in spring just as they are starting to pop up through the soil.

A garden bed with a lettuce border, row of marigolds, followed by the vegetable garden.

From Martha… How To Grow, Plant, and Care for Marigolds.

From Tanja – if you are growing them as companion plants for organic pest control, plant them en masse! In rows of at least three, in blocks, or as a border planting.

Choosing the right fertiliser – all about organic versus inorganic fertilisers.

How to grow potatoes.

A lovely curving garden in hues of purple, orange, and lime green.

This beautiful garden. Here is part one of this garden, how it came to be.

Embracing maximalism in the garden. This is totally me. If you like a full garden, this is well worth the read, or the listen, if you prefer.

A pathway made with pallet wood.

Don’t you just love this idea (above)? I have the most perfect place for it, too, so perhaps when hubs is finished with the window boxes, he can move on to making this?

Yes, it will be slippery when wet, so keep that in mind if you, like me, are inspired to make one of these.

Homey Bits of Inspiration

This week, I am sharing one of my most favourite bloggers/You-Tubers. I love all the decor things that she does, and she has the softest, most calming voice. I watch her videos only when I have time to really sit back and really enjoy them. When I don’t have to rush away to something else. This week, she is sharing her sweet little greenhouse. You are going to love this one.

Key Lime Pie in a jar.
Lemon Curd Mousse in a jar.

This No Bake Key Lime Pie looks delish. I love light little desserts like this.

Reminds me of the Lemon Curd Mousse I made for workshops a few years back. They were such a big hit! I made them in a small mason jar, just like the lime pie, but also added a bit of graham cracker crumbs at the bottom to make them look and taste more like a lemon cream pie.

Virgin margarita cocktails.

Easy white bean dip with garlic and herbs.

Have A Great Sunday ~ Tanja
