Sunday Potager Ramblings #20

Well, hi there? How are this morning? We have another sunny day, that always helps to brighten ones mood, eh?

That said, this morning already feels like it’s been 24 hours long! I started by playing all my NYT games first thing, with my two cups of coffee, as I am wont to do. I then started scanning my emails, only to find that Outlook had locked me out. That took a good hour to resolve, plus loads of stress and frustration, haha. Why are computer related glitches always such a thing to resolve, eh?

We have company this weekend, so my time in the potting shed has been short. Quick zips in to check on the seedlings, remove humidity domes on any trays that have at about 75% of the seedlings up, and to do some watering. I will settle in for a day of sowing (many of my flowers and cool crops are due!) tomorrow instead. A few days either way will make no difference in the grand scheme of things.

The sun is shining, the weather is fantastic, but tomorrow? It all changes. They say snow is coming our way. It’s going to be sad to go from spring like weather, back to second winter, but boy, can we ever use the moisture.

I mean, check it out above. It’s not pretty out there, lol, but most of the snow is all gone. I am wanting to start raking the lawn, sweeping the patio, cleaning the deck… but it is all too early yet.

Shopping – With things being as they are (that is all I will say about that – you all know what I mean, eh?). If you are looking for a Canadian alternative for on-line shopping. Things like make up, cleaning supplies, toys, vitamins, teas, household goods of all sorts… you may want to check out Well.ca. They ship free to your house on orders over $35. I really love their Danica line (like those Swedish dishcloths that I so love, but so much more than just those). Many items are comparable in price, while some cost a bit more. Just as with the shops, I find.

Also, if you sign up for Chatelaine magazine on line, they showcase Canadian makers and brands regularly. Another email to sign up for is The Kit. They have articles, horoscopes (hah, I love this bit), and Canadian shopping tips galore.

That said, I really want to thank those of you who support my wee blog through Amazon. I so appreciate you : )

This fantastic garden in the UK.

20 white flowering shrubs. Number 3 and 6 are on my list to add to my variegated hedge this summer. I already have several of #11 (they are my favourites), though might put in one of the golden or orange leafed ones. I absolutely love #16, but they are super hard to find, for some reason.

Round-Up isn’t what it used to be. Check this out!

Keeping a garden journal.

Have you tried winter sowing? I know many who swear by this technique! Here is the how to. Oh, and it is not too late to do it right now!

Homey Ideas & Bits

13 tree branches that you can force for spring. If you haven’t yet done it, today is a great time to prune apple trees in our area, with all this warm weather we are having. We pruned our a week ago, hoping to have apple blossoms inside for Easter.

My kitchen nook table is a mess. This is 100% what it looks like today, at this moment. It is covered in plants going out to the potting cottage, fruits, floor wash, plants, and cuttings stuck into a watering can till I can get them out.

Watering cans. They are on my mind at the moment as I water all the seedlings, and such. The long spouted ones work well for seedlings and indoor watering for less spills, water goes where you want it. That trio. You may be wondering what to do with the squeeze bottle… I tell you, it is perfect for watering seed snails and small pots.

Another Scandinavian home that I would love to move right into. I know they are featuring the buttercream hued walls, but to be honest, I would likely paint them, hahaha. What about you? How do you feel about very light shades of yellow?

Sautéed breakfast salad.

Next month is my turn to host the neighbourhood coffee klatch (I host twice a year) and I am already planning what to make. This good ole fashioned pineapple upside down cake looks like the perfect thing, though I may use up the rhubarb in the freezer and make a rhubarb upside down cake instead. What do you think? Which would you like best? Or neither? Both make me think of spring.

Lemon Loaf. Spring always makes me want lemon everything.

Blueberry sour cream coffee cake.

Make cookies from a box of brownie mix.

How do you know when your sourdough starter is ready?

Yummy looking cinnamon raisin sourdough boule.

Happy Sunday ~ Tanja
