Sunday Potager Ramblings #13 (Setting Intentions for a Positive New Year)

Can you believe that we are just 2 days away from the start of a brand new year? I have no idea what is coming our way, but I feel it’s going to be a good one.

Are you setting resolutions? I have heard that some people are making affirmations instead of resolutions?

This year, instead of making any resolutions, I am setting intentions. A kinder way of setting my path in 2025. Intentions are more of a determination or resolve to do something, or bring about something new. I have lots of ideas for that, but this is my most important intention.

Last year, my resolution was to lose weight and get healthier (sound familiar?). It took the entire year, so ended up being more of an intention than a resolution, but I did it. If I fell off the path, I just jumped back on it again. I lost 12 pounds and feel so much better, healthier. The ‘wishful thinking goal’ was to lose 17 lbs, get back to when I was at my fittest weight, so I am close. I may get there yet, but …no pressure. This year, the intent is to be more regular about exercise. I may even join a group and meet new people : )

What do your days look like between Christmas and New Year? Do you take a break from it all? Or are you back at your regular schedule? My son’s in-laws rent a cabin for the week, play board games, go hiking, winter sport things, just get away from everything for a week of relaxation with the entire family.

Me… I ate rich holiday food for several days in a row. Have to eat up some of those leftovers, you know? Then I started craving salads in a big way! You know when that happens, your body is telling you enough is enough, hahaha. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the holiday chocolates?

My list of things to do this week….

  • Organise the craft room. It has become a dumping ground for all the things that do not have a regular home.
  • Start crafting. I have many ideas, but hoping to start by making a ragdoll, or two, for my granddaughter.
  • Get my seed orders in.

This week on the blog, we talked about…

Coming up next week is Vegetable Seed Companies for 2025, and Tomato Seed Sources.

SEED SOURCES

Tomatofest has a sale on their seeds till January 2nd.

Heritage Harvest and T&T Seeds have emailed that they are raring to go now that the mail strike is over.

These gorgeous purple and white striped Listada de Gandia eggplants are from Heritage Harvest.

Gardening Inspiration

Make more lavender plants by layering. We cannot reliably grow or overwinter lavender here in our zone 3, but this is a great idea for warmer garden zones. I would still do this here, though. Buy one plant and make several more from it. Even if only for the summer.

Home, DIY, & Decor Inspiration

What is this new trending Rom-Com Decor? Don’t be scared! It sounds lovely, a bit like Granny Chic, but maybe even better!

She says that the appeal of rom-com décor is that it feels lived in, relaxed, unfussy, and welcoming. “For so long, the popular design trend was modern and monochromatic, which often lacked an element of warmth and human touch. Now, people are leaning to the opposite side of the spectrum and opting for homes that feel like homes rather than showrooms,” Rosen says.

What really stood out for me in this article were the mercury glass candle holders/small vases. Hahaha, can you follow how my crazy brain works? The thing is, we can easily DIY these ourselves. See the how-to here.

I love, love, love everything about this simple, shaker style kitchen and laundry room. Just wow.

Recipe Inspiration

These two recipes look super yummy. If you don’t have couscous for the salmon bowl, try quinoa or maybe wild rice for something different.

I usually add what I have baked this week in this spot, but I did not make even one thing. I am now trying to decide what to make with my sourdough this week. Maybe some more sourdough discard crackers? Yummy snack and healthier for me than potato chips ; )
